Research Unit in Optics and Photonics The Research Unit in Optics and Photonics (UROP) of Sétif is attached to the Centre for Development of Advanced Technologies (CDTA). It was created on March 15, 2011 The Unit is responsible for developing research activities in the fields of Optics and Photonics. Optics and Photonics appear today as promising technologies for the next decades in the context of the extraordinary development of optoelectronics. This is mainly due to the maturity of most of the components needed to achieve a complete optoelectronic chain as well as the growing demand for miniaturized photonic circuits at low cost. These needs have led to a multidisciplinary research involving physicist, chemist, biologists and engineers, whose objective is to provide systems meeting specifications given from an approach linking the desired performances of materials at the molecular and atomic level. The challenges of these technologies are not only scientific and technological but also strategic, especially in the current context of a major energy mutation. In this context, the main objective of UROP is to contribute to the emergence of a genuine Algerian photonics industry by working in particular to: Prepare the scientific environment for useful research in the field of optics and photonics; Define and implement an R&D strategy for photonic components and systems and their applications; Define a real industrialization strategy in the optics and photonics sectors; Promote national and international cooperation and partnerships. Algeria has the human and material resources to make science and technology a powerful tool for economic development and an important factor for national security. Dr. youcef BOUGHERIRA Unit Director
